Holger Rune and Patrick Mouratoglou have once again decided to part ways, marking the end of their latest coaching partnership. This split, while not unprecedented, reflects the complexities of their professional relationship.

Rune, the young Danish tennis star, and Mouratoglou, the seasoned French coach, had a long history together. Rune was a part of Mouratoglou’s Tennis Academy, joining other notable talents like Coco Gauff, Stefanos Tsitsipas, and the Fruhvirtova sisters. Their familiarity and previous connection played a significant role when Rune initially enlisted Mouratoglou’s help. This collaboration proved fruitful, with Rune securing his first ATP Masters 1000 title under Mouratoglou’s guidance.

However, the duo’s partnership faced challenges. They separated after a period of success, with both parties acknowledging that things were not working out as hoped. Despite some media speculation and discussions, Mouratoglou and Rune resumed their work together after Rune’s split from Boris Becker. This decision was surprising given their previous parting, but they both chose to overlook past issues and start anew.

Their renewed collaboration showed promise for a while, but it became evident that underlying differences persisted. Both Mouratoglou and Rune released simultaneous statements announcing their decision to part ways, demonstrating a coordinated and respectful approach to the split.

Rune’s statement highlighted that their mutual decision to separate was made after discussions on what would be best for his career. Despite the challenges, Rune emphasized his ongoing respect and appreciation for Mouratoglou and the Mouratoglou Tennis Academy. He expressed optimism about moving forward with Kenneth, who will now be present at all his practices and tournaments. Rune acknowledged that while his results this year have not met expectations, he is eager to regain his peak form.

Rune’s statement read, “I have had some good talks with Patrick, and we mutually decided to part ways. He will always be a great friend, but for now, the best setup for me is to continue with Kenneth, who will be present at all practices and tournaments. Nothing changes in my relationship with the Mouratoglou Academy, which has always been very helpful to me. I am looking forward to being healthy and back on track again.”

In response, Mouratoglou also issued a thoughtful statement, affirming that the decision to end their partnership was mutual. He expressed his belief that Rune would benefit from a different coaching approach and praised Rune’s exceptional talent and character. Mouratoglou expressed his continued support for Rune’s future endeavors and reiterated that the Mouratoglou team remains committed to supporting his growth.

Mouratoglou’s statement said, “Holger and I have decided to part ways. This decision was reached mutually, as we believe Holger would benefit from a different approach in his setup right now. He is an exceptional player with immense potential and a strong character. It has been a privilege to work with him, and I have no doubt that he will continue to achieve great success in his career. I will remain his biggest supporter. The Mouratoglou team remains fully operational and committed to helping him grow. Wishing Holger all the best in his future endeavors.”
