Elena Rybakina has officially withdrawn from the Paris Olympics on health grounds. The 25-year-old tennis star, who was set to represent Kazakhstan in both the women’s singles and mixed doubles, announced her decision shortly after the draw was made on Thursday. Rybakina’s withdrawal comes after her doctors advised against traveling due to a diagnosis of acute bronchitis.
Rybakina has faced ongoing health issues throughout the year, which have impacted her ability to compete. She previously withdrew from several major tournaments, including the Dubai Open, Indian Wells, the Italian Open, and the Eastbourne International, all in the lead-up to Wimbledon. Despite her determination to participate in the Olympics, her condition prevented her from traveling or competing.
In a statement explaining her decision, Rybakina shared that her doctors strictly prohibited her from traveling to Paris and participating in the Games. “I was very eager to recover in time and compete, but unfortunately, my health did not allow it,” Rybakina said. “My doctors have advised me against traveling and playing tennis, and I have to respect their decision.”
Rybakina’s absence from the Olympics is a significant blow for Kazakhstan’s tennis team and her fans. Her remarkable performances over the past few years have made her a prominent figure in the sport, and her participation in the Games was highly anticipated. However, her health and well-being must take priority as she focuses on recovery.
The tennis community will undoubtedly miss her presence at the Olympics, and there is hope that she will return to full health soon. As Rybakina takes time to heal, her supporters and the sports world wish her a swift and complete recovery, looking forward to her future return to competitive play.
